An Empty Venice

Because many of you have had to cancel or postpone your trip to Venice during the current trying times, I have been working on a post about Venice to give you all some pictures to remember or dream about, but it is not finished yet. You will have to wait for that one.

This last Monday the travel restrictions eased a bit here and we are now able to travel within our region for sporting activities, including taking a walk. You still need to wear a mask, have gloves on and maintain social distance. Holly and I decided to take a train to Venice on the first day possible to take a walk, experience the empty city, and of course, take some pictures.

We had the Rialto bridge to ourselves and visited a nearly empty Piazza San Marco. We saw no dolphins or fish, but it was all breathtaking. nonetheless.

My Facebook friends have already seen one short video of Piazza San Marco, but here is another and some pictures as well. Enjoy.

  1. I love your photos Jim! How amazing to see Venice like this! I know that Jerry and I were that at probably one of the city’s most crowded moments so this is a stark contrast, to say the least. That must have felt very strange to have the Rialto Bridge all to yourselves, and wonderful!
    Love to you both!

  2. Beautiful shots Jim! (You are fortunate to have such a lovely model to join you on all your shoots!)
Possibly the only time you’ll ever be able to stand on the Rialto without someone trying to sell you something!
Do you have any gut feeling yet about when things will open up again? I know it’s too early to really know, given the potential for things to change so quickly. We’re wrestling with the decision over whether or not we’ll need to postpone the September trip – don’t want to jump too soon, but anxious nonetheless. I think we’ll have a better sense in a month, and fortunately Delta is allowing free reschedules on any travel up to Sept 30 at this point.

    1. We are all having the same issue. We are not sure if we will be able to get our flights to and from the US for Zach’s wedding yet. We have the double issue that we are flying Norwegian Air and they are in real danger of going belly up. I think all we can do at this point is wait and see.

      1. Yes, I agree, that’s about it! Nothing any of us can do beyond staying safe and hoping the crazies don’t blow it all up again. Buona fortuna e buona salute a tutti noi!

  3. So beautiful! What a rare thing to see this city so quiet. How grand it must feel to be able to be out & move again. Thanks for sharing♥️
